Instrumental Music and Communication
July 17th, 2009 by Jim Chappell | Filed under Uncategorized.I have always been intrigued by certain evocative pieces of instrumental music…(Chopin Preludes come to mind)
Sometimes the feelings being conveyed are almost too difficult to speak about, or too complex. Sometimes they’re just very complete in and of themselves, and don’t need words.
In either case people anywhere in the world can understand what’s being said..usually immediately.
Hi Jim…….have you ever thought of incorporating your meolodies with the full sound of “movie music”? That is Jugen’s specialty in his studio……it’s way out in the country, Maypearl, TX. You’d love this beautiful taste of Texas. They built their house literally in the middle of nowhere…from their patio all you see is prairie, trees and birds.
HUMOR: I never have enjoyed “grilling”; but promised Carol I’d grill for friends last night. Somehow, I singed the hair on my arms, eyebrows, and front of my hairline (the little I have). My first thought while waking up was: “Gee, I didn’t check to see if I still had any eye-lashes left. I do!
Jim, you’ve written some very sweet things about how much your daughter means to you…..but you don’t mention a wife. I’m curious, but understand if you don’t want to share any personal tragedy, etc.
FYI……In ‘81 (we were married in Dec, ‘82) Carol survived a robbery that left her with 4 bullets in her head; but after only 10 weeks of re-hab was attending the Dallas opera. We compared notes and I saw the same performance (not necessarily the same night)…….the Opera was: ………….Romeo and Juliet. We met a few months after that…and the rest is history. ( : A brief account of the incident is written in Robert Schuler’s book: “Tought Times Don’t Last, But Tough People Do”. And she was on his program twice and the 700 Club in the early ’80’s.
She is especially sensitive to music and loves your CD’s. When a good friend moved back to Michigan and she listened to “GONE”…it made her weep a lot, but it helped her deal with the loss. Love for us to spend some time together after your sell-out performance at the Meyerson here in Dallas.
Thanks for your time…….hope I’m not imposing! Love, Luke (alias, L.C.)
P.S. I’ll never forget the “shock and awe” I experienced when. while browsing thru the New Age music at Barnes & Noble, I saw about 4 or 5 of your CD’s. Then I felt sad that we hadn’t stayed connected so I could have been a part of your journey to success…….what a ride it must have been. Maybe you can blog some of your “road to success” incidents.
